Apprentice /
Lube Technician
Years 1–2
Everyone starts here, handling high-volume, lower-skill maintenance work.
THE WORK:
Oil changes, tire rotations, fluid flushes, basic vehicle inspections.
FOCUS:
Flawless execution, avoid comebacks, build your tool collection smart.
Semi-Skilled /
C-Tech
Years 2–3
You've logged your hours and proven reliable. Now it's time to grow your skills.
THE WORK:
Brakes, suspension, alignments, basic electrical repairs (bulbs, batteries, etc.).
FOCUS:
Complete WBT training, attend factory classes, and earn your first ASE certifications (A4, A5).
Journey Level /
B-Tech
Years 3–5
You're now working on heavy mechanical work and mid-level troubleshooting.
THE WORK:
Engine teardowns, transmission replacements, HVAC diagnostics, drivability issues.
FOCUS:
Transition to flat-rate pay (varies by union local). Build speed, accuracy, and efficiency.
Diagnostic Specialist /
A-Tech
Years 5+
You solve the problems that stump other techs.
THE WORK:
Advanced electrical, network diagnostics, module programming, complex engine diagnostics.
FOCUS:
Use high-end scan tools, lab scopes, and advanced diagnostic equipment.
Master Technician
Status
Achieve the highest level of skill and recognition.
TO ACHIEVE MASTER STATUS:
- Pass all 8 core ASE certifications (A1–A8).
- Document a minimum of 2 years of experience.
- Complete the manufacturer's Master curriculum (e.g., Ford Senior Master, Toyota Master Diagnostic Technician).

What You'll Do
Diagnose and repair new and pre-owned cars and light SUVs
Complete inspections, routine maintenance, reconditioning, and general or advanced repairs
Troubleshoot brake, tire, suspension, drivability, and electrical concerns
Use manufacturer procedures and factory information to complete repairs to OEM standards
Document your work clearly
Complete repairs safely, efficiently, and correctly
What We're Looking For
Three or more years of automotive repair experience preferred
Dealership or manufacturer-specific experience is a plus
Strong diagnostic skills, including electrical and drivability concerns
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
Ability to meet applicable pre-employment requirements
Personal set of automotive tools; specialized factory tools are provided as needed
ASE and Missouri safety and emissions inspection certifications preferred, or a willingness to obtain credentials required for the role
